first impressions of praha

so despite being halfway across the globe and without my mom to call and tell all of my meaningless problems to regularly, not too much has changed. the scenary is different (in a VERY good way. it’s incredible how architecularly beautiful this city is. i feel like im living in a midevil fairy tale. i cant even pretend to grasp how beautiful its going to look once it hits spring time.)

socially, no one really smiles here except for me and the herds of americans that we travel with. they all have mega broods. i think theyll like us (or at least tolerate us) a lot more once we aren’t walking around in groups of 12 at all times. im really excited to branch off and explore the city. there’s sooo many different side street, incredible views, and massive buildings from every era in history. and theyre all in tact! some of them have been made into mcdonals or bars or whatever, but the outside stays the same. its a shame that a lot of these buildings are going that route and a lot are starting to get big, ugly digital ads on them but none are torn down, which is really neat.

everyone on my program seems really cool. the obama inauguration was on at like 6 here so we had a bunch of people from our program over to our apartment. i’ll take a picture of our view and this space on a nicer day - it’s incredibly beautiful in our apartment and from our balcony. barack did so well. love that man. i couldn’t decide if i was just extremely overtired or extremely emotional during his speech because i was like half crying throughout the entire thing. even when i was spacing out… i think it was a combination of the two things.

anyways i have a million more things i could ramble on about, this place is seriously so new and intriguing. i can’t even get enough! i’ve had a number of awkward/typical moments (getting locked out because i can’t use my keys and then venturing into a czech supermarket only to realize you have to bag your own groceries AND buy the bags. who knew?) and i’m sure they’ll only continuue. i’ve got to run take a shower because we’re going out in about an hour. ciao! (i still haven’t figured out goodbye in czech so italian will just have to do…)
